An ASA PowerPoint Presentation

Many education and career paths can lead to becoming a statistician. They all focus on relevant education and training as keys to success in the field. Employment opportunities are available in a multitude of areas, providing statisticians with professional flexibility, exciting opportunities, and rewarding, challenging, and lucrative careers.

This PowerPoint presentation is general advice from the American Statistical Association about the fields available to statisticians and the knowledge, skills, and abilities that many statisticians use on a daily basis. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive list, and is not the only path one can follow to become a successful statistician.

Instructions for Using the Presentation:

  1. Download the presentation and save it locally to your computer. If you have problems with this process, contact your system administrator for assistance.
  2. Open the file Stat_Careers.ppt (or whatever name was chosen when the file was saved locally).
  3. Click on "Slide Show" then "View Show" in the menu. The presentation will run automatically.
  4. To change slides manually, click on "Slide Show" then "Set Up Show." Choose to advance slides "Manually."
Note: If you do not have PowerPoint installed on your computer, you can download a PowerPoint Viewer from Microsoft's web site.
