Alaska Chapter
The Alaska Chapter of the ASA provides a community for statistically-inclined people working in Alaska. Most of our members are professionaly involved with data analysis. Most of us have advanced degree in either stastistics or a related field. Many of our members work in the biological sciences. But this does not limit our membership to a particular field. We encourage anyone with an interest in statistics or data management to join and present at the annual conference. Given the size of Alaska, most activities center on the annual meeting & short course. Local gatherings of statisticians occur throughout the year. The internal chapter e-mail list allows inquiries to be sent to the majority of professional statisticians in the state.
We also provide a gateway for the general public, politicians, managers, and researchers to professional expertise in a wide range of statistical specialties. Please explore the member list as well as the list of private consultants.
The short course will be taught by Dr. James Ramsay of McGill University.
Fairbanks is considered a premier destination site with a wide variety of things to do. Flight seeing, hot springs, canoeing, horse back riding, glacier viewing, fishing, hiking and biking are just a few of the local activities available to the summer visitor.
