2006 Annual Meeting -- Albuquerque Chapter of the ASA
Albuquerque Chapter of the American Statistical Association

2006 Annual Meeting

Date: Friday, September 29, 2006.
Location: Sunrise Springs (site) (SS map) (maps.google)

This year's theme is the "Role of the Statistician" with guest speakers representing academia, government, industry, and consulting.  Additionally, technical talks are planned for the afternoon, as well as the Mu-Sigma-Rho certificate presentation, elections, and other activities.

For this year's theme we are pleased that three of our most prominent members have agreed to present their perspectives on this subject. Moreover, Todd Sanger (Director, Global Statistical Sciences, at Eli Lily and Company) has agreed attend to our meeting and present his experience in managing a group of about 150 statisticians.

The cost is $40 for non-students and $20 for students. Payment can be made by cash or check at the meeting. Checks should be made out to the Albuquerque Chapter of the ASA.
Registration includes lunch at Sunrise Springs as well as coffee break in the afternoon. Details on lunch will follow later.

You must RSVP to Larry Pratt (lpratt@adventsolar.com) by September 20, 2006  if you plan to attend the meeting. In your RSVP, please indicate if you require a vegetarian lunch.

Please consider the following points with respect to the meeting:
  • The meeting will include the election of new officers. This year, a new Vice-President (the current Vice-President becoming President) and secretary-treasurer will be elected. The current officers looked for potential candidates and found someone interested in the position of Secretary/Treasurer. However, we were unable to find  anybody interested in the position of Vice-President. We ask you to consider this opportunity to serve our chapter, and to contact any of the officers (at the addresses on our chapter's front page) if you are interested.
  • Our chapter is now affiliated to Mu-Sigma-Rho (statistical honorary society) (see http://www.amstat.org/chapters/Albuquerque/msr.html for more details). The subcommittee responsible for selecting new student members is itself short of two members. As elections will be held during our annual meeting for mu-sigma-rho,  we ask you to consider also serving as an officer of our local Mu-Sigma-Rho chapter.
  • As you will see in the schedule displayed below, two technical talks are included in our meeting. We think that a mix of technical and general talks allows more variety. If you are interested by the opportunity of presenting your work to our members, please contact any of the officers for inclusion in the program . We will base the selection of talks on a "first arrived, first served" basis. Each technical talk slot is 30 minutes long (including questions).
  • At the meeting you will be able to make a donation to fund future New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair "Best Use of Statistics" awards. Contributions are tax deductible.
