Southeast
Michigan Science Fair
March 11, 2005
On Friday evening, 3/11/05,
eleven Chapter members served as statistics Special Awards judges in
the Southeast Michigan Science Fair, held at Washtenaw Community
College in Ypsilanti Township, MI. The judging was a joint
effort with the Ann Arbor Chapter of ASA, and included members from
both Chapters. We reviewed approximately 300 (high school
and middle school) science projects for their use of statistics in
their research and exhibit.
The panel gave 47 signed Certificates of Recognition, and 10
signed Certificates of Merit. Among the 10 more
meritorious projects, we gave 2 Awards of Excellence as determined by
consensus of our panel of Statistics Judges. Those 2
projects each received a special certificate signed by all of the
Statistics Judges, and a book (“The Cartoon Guide to Statistics” for
the middle school student, and “Lady Tasting Tea” for the high school
student
