The 34th Annual Spring Symposium
The NJ Chapter of the ASA recently held its 34th Annual Spring Symposium. Our theme this year was: Big Data, Data Mining, and Data Visualization in the 21st Century: Evolution of Statistical Approaches. The Symposium was held on June 7th at UMDNJ. Over 70 statisticians attended talks by Min-ge Xie (Rutgers University; A Split-and-Conquer Approach for Analysis of Extremely Large Data ), Chris Volinsky (AT&T Research Labs; Shaping Cities of the Future using Mobile Data ), Robert Stine (University of Pennsylvania; Models for Millions), David Madigan (Columbia University; Are Observational Studies Any Good?) and Han Liu (Princeton University; From High Dimensional Data to Big Data). We were given permission by 3 of the 5 speakers to post their slides.
