**********January Micro-JSM Meeting Report*****************

Our January meeting consisted of a series of talks by chapter members who have presented or will present their work at the Joint Statistical Meetings. If you were not able to make it to our micro-JSM you missed some excellent talks. Many thanks to Anuradha Roy, Joe Lucke, Jerry Keating and Ken Williams for their interesting presentations!

**********COTS 2004 Reminder from Greg Miller*******************

The registration form for the Conference of Texas Statisticians is now online at http://www.sfasu.edu/math. Follow the COTS 2004 link and print out the PDF Registration Form. Please fax it to 936-468-1669 with attention to "COTS". Recall that the conference is March 26th and 27th in Nacogdoches at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The website will periodically be updated. Currently, you will find registration info, hotel info and a list of speakers & tentative times. We are fortunate to have a confirmed group of speakers that are really going to be stellar... just check out the roster of speakers and you'll surely not want to miss the talks!! Additionally, we have healthy group of "New Texans" who will contribute in a big way to COTS 2004.

CALL FOR POSTERS: Graduate students wishing to present a poster should contact me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is a call for immediate reply regarding posters!! Hurry!

Finally, note that the conference begins at 12:30 PM on Friday the 27th. You are on your own for Friday lunch. We are planning an incredible East Texas BBQ Buffet for Friday evening, so don't fill up at lunch!!

****** Alamo Regional Science Fair Winners******

The San Antonio Chapter sent volunteer judges to the 2004 Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair to help select those senior division projects that showed excellence in the use of statistical methods. This years judges were Fatema Akhtar, Bill Alley, Jacobina Alley, Billy Jackson, Norma Ketchum, Howard Monroe, Carolyn Oakley, Malcom Ree, Anuradha Roy, Johnny Weismuller, Ken Williams and Raymond Zurcher. Ken Williams and Howard Monroe presented the awards to the winning students at the awards ceremony. Many thanks to Howard Monroe for organizing the chapter judging and awards presentation and to Joe Ward for soliciting vendor donations of software and textbooks.

The San Antonio Chapter awarded savings bonds, copies of statistical software and statistics books to the winning students. The chapter awarded First place and a $250 savings bond to Julian Hong of Reagan High School whose project was titled "Restraining Restenosis: Combating Vascular Disease". Second place and a $150 savings bond was awarded to Wesley Hong from Reagan High School whose project was titled "Cyclodestrin Based Nanoporous Polymers". Third place and $50 savings bonds were awarded to Megha Davalath of Health Careers High School whose project was titled "Corpus Callosum: Sexual Dimorphism" and Brian Howell of MacArthur High School whose project was titled "The Effects of a Unique Pulsed Wave on Liposome."
