Volunteers Needed to Judge the 2007 Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Please consider volunteering to be a special judge at the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair.  The category is "The Best Use of Statistics in a Science Project", senior high division, which is awarded by the San Antonio Chapter of the American Statistical Association.    Being a member of the Association is not a requirement.  The only requirement is a desire to help our budding young scientists hone their academic and research skills.  No experience as a judge is necessary.  Judging is scheduled for Friday, March 16, 2007 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.  A catered lunch will be provided free of charge.  The location is St. Maryís University, Bill Greehey Arena, in San Antonio.

To volunteer send an email to judging coordinator Howard Monroe at hmonroe2@satx.rr.com or call Howard at 210-421-7547.

Webinar Announcement

Conducting Classroom Research in Statistics Education: Issues, Challenges and Examples"
with Andrew Zieffler, University of Minnesota

4:00 to 4:30 p.m. EDT March 13th, 2007
The interdisciplinary field of inquiry that is statistics education research spans a diverse set of disciplines and methodologies. A recent review of a subset of this literature, the research on teaching and learning statistics at the college level, was used to raise some practical issues and pose some challenges to the field of statistics education. These will be addressed in the CAUSE webinar. In addition, a recent doctoral dissertation study will be used to illustrate some of these challenges and offer suggestion for how to deal with them.

The webinar will be conducted using the ReadyTalk software platform. A computer with internet access and a telephone is all you need. There is no cost to the participant for either the telephone call or computer connection. ReadyTalk allows you to watch presentations on your computer, and participate in the conversation via phone.

Sign-up to participate in this webinar: http://www.causeweb.org/webinar/2007-03/. For more information contact Jean A. Scott, CAUSE Program Coordinator, jscott@stat.ohio-state.edu.
