City: Atlanta   State: Georgia   Country: USA
Event Type:  Meeting
ASA Sponsored:  No
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Conference on Cataract and Refractive Surgery during March 28-29, 2016 at Atlanta, USA. The conference will be organized around the theme "Vision corrections by reconstructive Cataract and Refractive Surgeries: ophthalmologist's outlook." OMICS International's Cataract 2016 invites Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, renowned scientists, pathologists, surgeons, young researchers, industrial delegates and talented student communities under a single roof where networking and global partnering happens for the acceleration of future research.

Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye. An ophthalmologist is a specialist in medical and surgical eye problems. Since ophthalmologists perform operations on eyes, they are both surgical and medical specialists. A multitude of diseases, vision defects and conditions can be diagnosed from the eye namely cataract, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and conjunctivitis. This annual gathering of Ophthalmologists and Optometrists at Cataract- 2016 aims to provide an insight about the latest advancement and treatment modalities in the field of cataract & refractive surgeries and other associated prospects.

OMICS International has an enhanced and highlighted features of scientific partnerships and alliances with development agencies, Institutes, leading research organizations, non-government organizations, and other entities to promote the development-oriented research across the globe through live streaming, B2B and Scientific Meetings. OMICS International's Medical Conferences provides an excellent opportunity for the budding scientists and young researchers through its special initiatives like Young Researcher Forum, Poster Presentation and E-poster (for more information visit conference series).

AMS Mathematics Research Community on Algebraic Statistics

Event Dates:  Sunday  June 12 - Saturday  June 18
City: Snowbird   State: Utah   Country: USA
Event Type:  Workshops & Seminars
ASA Sponsored:  No
The summer research conference on Algebraic Statistics is one of four week-long research conferences for early-career mathematicians (up to two years pre-doctoral and three years post-doctoral) that are part of the American Mathematical Society's Mathematics Research Communities program. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the program's overarching goal is to foster the formation of self-sustaining cohorts of mathematical scientists centered on research areas of common interest. A key part of this goal is to enable those young mathematical scientists to grow as professionals over time-deepening their capacity to contribute to mathematical sciences, developing relationships within their professional community, and enhancing their effectiveness in service to the wider world through their institutions. The MRC provides participants travel to the Snowbird resort in the mountains of Utah and room and board while they are there. While the summer conference is the centerpiece, the program also supports subsequent participant travel to the Joint Mathematics Meetings and to a limited number of follow-up collaboration gatherings. Applications are accepted from November 1, 2015 to March 1, 2016.

Assimilating Long Term Data Into Ecosystem Models

Event Dates:  Saturday  August 13 - Saturday  August 20
City: Land O'Lakes   State: Wisconsin   Country: USA
Event Type:  Short Courses
ASA Sponsored:  No
This course will provide 20 graduate students and postdocs with intensive training in tools to 1) estimate the signal and uncertainty in historical and paleoecological data and 2) assimilate both signal and uncertainty into the current suite of terrestrial ecosystem models. The course has a hands-on, integrated curriculum emphasizing the data/model process from design through data collection, analysis and back to design. We will collect tree-rings and sedimentary data (e.g., pollen, charcoal, and macrofossils). Analysis of these data will take place in a Bayesian mode of inference addressing uncertainty in age-models, calibration of proxy data, and integration of diverse historical data. After an introduction to inference from ecosystem models in traditional "forward" mode, participants will integrate ecological parameters estimated from their data sets into these ecosystem models using formal Bayesian data assimilation. Participating faculty: Mike Dietze (Boston University); Steve Jackson (U.S. Geological Survey/University of Arizona); Jason McLachlan (University of Notre Dame); Chris Paciorek (University of California Berkeley); Jack Williams (University of Wisconsin). This workshop is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is free to participants. Transportation to Chicago, Illinois or Madison, Wisconsin is not included. We are seeking students with interests and backgrounds in statistics, paleoecology, and/or terrestrial ecosystem modeling. Send a CV, a statement detailing why you want to take the course and how it will help your research, and arrange to have a letter of support from your major advisor. Applications need to be sent to Jody Peters at peters.63@nd.edu by February 15, 2016.

City: Maastricht   State: International   Country: The Netherlands
Event Type:  Meeting
ASA Sponsored:  No
Small area estimation (SAE) plays an important role in the field of information provision about modern societies using survey sampling. SAE methods enable reliable estimation at detailed disaggregation levels where sample sizes are too small to apply direct estimation techniques. The main purpose of organizing a conference on small area estimation is to assess the current state of development and usage of small area methodology. This conference continues a series of conferences on small area estimation that have been organized annually at different places around the world. It will give researchers and practitioners from all over the world an opportunity to exchange information or learn about state-of-the-art small area estimation techniques. So far small area estimation has predominantly been an academic area of research. The focus of this conference is to give more attention to applications and implementation in government agencies. ?Our aim for this conference is to have several invited sessions on focused research areas including a session on applications in official statistics. Besides invited sessions there will be contributed special topic sessions and poster sessions.
