RSS 2016 International Conference

Event Dates:  Monday  September 05 - Thursday  September 08
City: Manchester   State: International   Country: United Kingdom
Event Type:  Meeting
ASA Sponsored:  No
Because of the range of topics presented and discussed and the breadth of the audience, the RSS Conference is the only one in the UK where all statisticians and users of data gather together. So it's the best forum to share information, network and learn from one another.

Now in its 24th year, the conference has gained prestige for its focus on current statistical issues, how it fosters the exchange of ideas and information and the quality of its speakers. Plenary speakers in 2016 will include Christl Donnelly (Imperial College London), Anne Glover (former Chief Scientific Adviser, European Commission) and Xiao-Li Meng (Harvard University).

This annual conference regularly attracts over 450 participants from all over the world, ranging from senior academic statisticians through to new graduates and postgraduate students, with strong representation from the public sector as well as statisticians and data scientists working in industry or as independent consultants. There is also a growing group of people who have an interest in statistics but who don't work in the field.

The conference is popular to such a diverse audience because it offers a broad and varied programme of talks and workshops not found in any other UK based statistical conference.

The 2016 Conference takes place in Manchester which is the 2016 European City of Science.

Deadline for submission of abstracts for contributed talks: 31 March 2016

Deadline for submission of abstracts for contributed posters: 30 June 2016

Reproducibility in Personalized Medicine Research Workshop

Event Dates:  Thursday  September 29 - Thursday  September 29
City: Boston   State: Massachusetts   Country: USA
Event Type:  Workshops & Seminars
ASA Sponsored:  No
During the past decade, one of the most notable transformations in science has been the availability of large and diverse sets of data. This trend has been accompanied by the increased use of machine learning and statistical techniques to classify patients and optimize treatments in precision medicine. In this context several concomitant factors can cause poor reproducibility levels, including unmeasured and heterogenous covariates' distributions across studies, new technologies and ascertainment mechanisms. The focus of the workshop will be on statistical techniques and applications to understand and prevent the most important and common causes of lapses of reproducibility.

Invited speakers include Keith Baggerly (The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center), Bin Yu (University of California, Berkeley), David Madigan (Columbia University), Edo Airoldi (Harvard University), Levi Waldron (City University of New York). As part of the workshop, we are hosting a student poster competition, with prizes for first, second and third place. We invite students to present their work on novel statistical methods and computational approaches. A broad range of contributions, from theoretical statistics to applications in a variety of biomedical fields will be evaluated. Students with ongoing projects in robust statistics, reproducibility and replicablity are particularly encouraged to participate. April 2017

2017 International Conference on Data Mining

Event Dates:  Thursday  April 27 - Saturday  April 29
City: Houston   State: Texas   Country: USA
Event Type:  Imaging Conference
ASA Sponsored:  No
Data mining is the computational process for discovering valuable knowledge from data. It has enormous application in numerous fields, including science, engineering, healthcare, business, and medicine. Typical datasets in these fields are large, complex, and often noisy. Extracting knowledge from these datasets requires the use of sophisticated, high-performance, and principled analysis techniques and algorithms, which are based on sound theoretical and statistical foundations. These techniques in turn require implementations on high performance computational infrastructure that are carefully tuned for performance. Powerful visualization technologies along with effective user interfaces are also essential to make data mining tools appealing to researchers, analysts, and application developers from different disciplines.

The SDM conference provides a venue for researchers who are addressing these problems to present their work in a peer-reviewed forum. It also provides an ideal setting for graduate students and others new to the field to learn about cutting-edge research by hearing outstanding invited speakers and attending presentations and tutorials (included with conference registration). A set of focused workshops is also held on the last day of the conference. The proceedings of the conference are published in archival form, and are also made available on the SIAM web site.
