| The purpose of Statistical Challenges in eCommerce Research Symposium (SCECR) is to bring together researchers across disciplines to address the statistical challenges and issues unique to research that used Web-based data. Over the past several years we have seen the emergence of a wide range of information technology (IT)-enabled business models, from online retailing such as Amazon.com to crowdsourcing models such as Threadless. In parallel, we have seen the transformation of entire industries due to IT ?from media industries, such as music and publishing industries where digital goods have altered patterns of consumption, to service industries where consumer interactions online have enabled a power shift between consumers and producers. This evolution of a networked economy has provided opportunities for researchers, especially as it pertains to the increased availability and accessibility of data. Such opportunities encompass, but are not limited to, access to click-through data, user-generated content, data on consumer choices and interactions. Such data have been used to answer a variety of important and emerging questions addressing the social and economic impact of IT-enabled business models. With the opportunity to obtain and analyze significant amounts of data comes many challenges. Researchers now ask and answer questions that were previously difficult to address; at the same time, a variety of "data-related questions and problems" arise with datasets of this nature. The purpose of this conference is to gather an interdisciplinary group of people whose common interest lies in using this data, and solving the statistical challenges associated with such data. | ||||
