15th Annual Poster Competition The American Statistical Association is proud to announce the winners
of the 15th annual American Statistics Poster Competition. Poster entries
came from among four grade level categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12.
Many posters were entered in regional competitions in Connecticut, Pennsylvania,
Nebraska, Michigan, Northeast Ohio, and Washington, DC (the Washington
Statistical Society). Each region awards its own prizes and forwards the
top entries into the national competition. The Washington Statistical
Society also pre-judges all entries that do not come through the regional
competitions and forwards the best of those entries to the national judging. Judges base their decision on overall impact, clarity of poster message,
appropriateness of graphics, originality and creativity, and technical
details. First place winners receive $200, a certificate and a trophy.
Second place winners receive $100, a certificate, and a ribbon. Third
place winners received $50, a certificate and a ribbon, and honorable
mentions receive a certificate and a ribbon. Through the generous support
of Texas Instruments, first place winners receive calculators. The ASA
would like to recognize the many members that participated in judging
and presenting awards this year. |

18th
Annual Project Competition
The American Statistical Association is proud to announce the winners
of the 18th annual American Statistics Project Competition. Project entries
came from among three grade level categories: 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. The quality of the submissions to the 2004 American Statistics Project
Competition was higher than ever before. In many cases, the question of
interest was one that allowed students to collect data, to analyze that
data using both graphs and computations, and to answer the question based
on the results of the analysis. The questions were often quite interesting
and directly related to the students' lives. Both students and teachers
are to be congratulated for completing such strong projects. First place winners receive $200, a certificate and a trophy. Second
place winners receive $100, a certificate, and a ribbon. Third place winners
received $50, a certificate and a ribbon, and honorable mentions receive
a certificate and a ribbon. Through the generous support of Texas Instruments,
first place winners receive calculators. The ASA would like to recognize
