AMATYC/ASA Web-Based Distance Learning Program
The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) and the American Statistical Association (ASA) have developed a web-based distance learning program to complement the AMATYC Traveling Statistics Workshops sponsored by CAUSE.
Statistics is often taught by one person in a department, who may feel somewhat isolated with few resources for travel or professional development. Web-based training is becoming increasingly popular as a cost-effective alternative to live training courses and AMATYC is excited about collaborating with ASA to offer the program as a service to our membership.
The registration fee for each webinar connection is only $45 for members of AMATYC or ASA. Departments are encouraged to have multiple participants view a single connection (for example, by projecting the course in a conference room).
Next webinar in this series will be announced soon
About Webinars
A webinar is a seminar which is conducted over the World Wide Web. It is a type of web conferencing. In contrast to a webcast, which is transmission of information in one direction only, webinars are designed to be interactive between the presenter and audience. A webinar is 'live' in the sense that information is conveyed according to an agenda, with a starting and ending time. In the case of the AMATYC/ASA web-based distance training program, the presenter speaks over a standard telephone line, pointing out information being presented on screen. The audience can respond via a chat feature. The word 'webinar' is a blend of web and seminar.
