- I received an email confirmation regarding my online order containing my Member ID, but when I try to login to the Members Only section of the web site, it won't work. What's wrong?
Please allow 10 to 12 working days before attempting to access your account online.
- How is my personal information used?
All information you provide will be kept private in accordance with our privacy statement.
- How can I find a particular item on your site?

- How can I find statistical listservs or bulletin boards on the internet?

- Where can I find out about schools offering degrees in statistics?

- Can you host a web site for our ASA Chapter or Section?

- Can we link to your page? Will you link to our page?

- How do I post an upcoming statistical event in the online calendar?
The ASA Calendar of Events is a searchable online database of statistical events throughout the world. Promote your meetings and events through ASA?s online Calendar of Events and Amstat News. Submit your statistical event.
- How do I access JSTOR?
ASA members can purchase access to the JSTOR database of JASA, TAS and Technometrics. JSTOR is a web archive of every issue of these publications with the exception of the most recent five years. To purchase access to JASA, TAS or Technometrics via JSTOR visit www.amstat.org/publications/JSTORSpecialOffer.pdf.
- How can I search for a member?
You can do a basic membership search or more enhanced search via the ASA Members Only Section.
About ASA
- On your web site is the remark that the ASA is the second oldest professional association in the United States. So what is the oldest?
The ASA was founded in 1839. To the best of our knowledge, the only American professional association formed prior to the ASA is the American Philosophical Society founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin. For information on the American Philosophical Society, see http://www.amphilsoc.org/about/.
- Whom should I talk to about purchasing the ASA mailing list?

- How do I make a contribution to the ASA? Is it tax-deductible?
Members and friends of the ASA may contribute to the statistics profession by financially supporting our mission and goals. The ASA is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit corporation. Contributions to the ASA are tax deductible. Contribute to the ASA.

Membership
- What are the benefits of becoming a member of the ASA?
All individual members of the ASA enjoy a subscription to Amstat News, our monthly membership magazine, as well as free online access to the Current Index to Statistics (CIS). Members also enjoy discounts on all major ASA publications, meetings, products and services as well as access to our members only area online. - Does ASA offer group insurance discounts?
ASA sponsors group insurance programs to help members obtain economical and convenient coverage. Members can take advantage of low group rates and a wide selection of insurance coverage including Term Life, Disability, High-Limit Accident, and Catastrophic Major Medical. - Does the ASA offer lifetime membership?
Life-Retired Membership is available to individuals who are 65 or older or who are fully retired regardless of age. This membership is intended for members who wish to remain associated with the ASA but who are no longer active in the statistics profession and do not wish to receive additional tangible benefits of membership.
Life-Active is available to individuals who are at least 50 or older and active in the profession. This membership is intended for those who wish to continue the benefits of ASA membership, including discounts on journals, meetings, and other products and services.
Life-Fellow is available to ASA Fellows who are 65 or older or who are fully retired regardless of age.
- How do I access CIS?
ASA members can now enjoy free online access to the Current Index to Statistics (CIS). To activate your CIS access, log in to ASA Members Only www.amstat.org/membersonly and select the CIS Web Access tab the top of the page for instructions.
My Account (address, ID, password, etc.)
- How do I change my address?
You can change your address on Members Only. Otherwise, send your new address to addresschange@amstat.org. Include your full name, ID number, and old address.
- What is my ID number?
Your ASA ID number can be found on your address label. It is also referred to as a "Member ID" or "Customer ID."
- How do I find my Password?
(a) click on MembersOnly
(b) enter your member id in the field provided
(c) click 'Email my password'.
Your password will be sent to the email address associated with your membership record.
Publications
- Does ASA publish any pamphlets or brochures?
Yes, many of our brochures and pamphlets are available on the web.
- How do I obtain copies of articles or reprints?
Please see our individual articles order form.
- How do I get permission to reprint material from one of ASA's magazines?
Contact Jim Dickey.
- Who do I talk to about missing publications?
If one of ASA's periodicals does not arrive or is damaged in the mail, let us know as soon as possible. Please provide our customer claims department with the following information:
- Name of publication
- Which issue (month, year)
- ID number from the mailing label (located above your name), if you have an old label
- Your name and address as printed on your mailing label, also your telephone number
- How do I obtain back issues?
Back issues can be ordered from customer service.
- I want to submit to an ASA publications. What are the author guidelines?
Author guidelines are available at www.amstat.org/publications/index.cfm?fuseaction=style-guide.
- How can I advertise?

- Where can I find web sites about statistics?
You may want to read the article, Statistical Tools on the World Wide Web, reprinted from The American Statistician. It has links to sites including the Statistics Virtual Library ( at University of Florida) and StatLib (at Carnegie Mellon), both of which link to many statistical resources. In addition, see Our list of Related Links & Resources.
- Can you answer a homework question? I am taking a class and I don't understand the text book.
Your best bet is to ask your instructor. Currently, our site is intended mainly to display activities and services of the American Statistical Association, rather than to be a reference for statistical methods or data.
- I need to find statistics about a particular industry. Do you have statistics about ...?
At this time, probably not. Searching the web is one way to find statistics. Another is to find an association site for the particular industry and look for links. TIP: Check out these sites:
