Keywords: Statistical Consultant, critical reasonings, challenges, recommendations, communication
As a statistical consultant, critical reasoning skills are a requirement. Three essential attributes include reasoning skills, asking probing questions and evaluating arguments and evidence around the subject matter.During interactions, the statistical consultant is most likely working with a team of experts within a common field of study. For example, the statistical consultant may be working on a clinical trial, and team members include physicians, data managers, lab personnel, safety officer, and CRAs.But a consultant may find themselves in involved in non-traditional consulting roles. In two separate case studies, challenges and recommendations for the statistical consultant are given for when venture capitalists are your client and when your client is a biotech Board of Directors. Typical reasoning and communication skills used with similar minded professionals often do not work in these cases. Presentation of evidence and evaluation of arguments must be framed differently for these clients, along with the subsequent communication. Through these two case studies, the challenges will be stated and compared, as well as recommendations for handling out of the norm type clients.
