Having Trouble Getting Older Proceedings CDs to Work?

This may be due to the way the CDs were produced. Below is an explanation from the ASA’s IT Department:

Technically, the files will work on Acrobat 5 and up (6, 7, 8 …). The problem is the way the old CDs were produced. The program that runs automatically when you pop the CD in tries to install Acrobat, rather than checking to see if another version is already installed. And if you cancel that installation, it stops the program.

For those who want to use the old CDs with newer versions of Acrobat, they can just open the main file manually. The file is “Search.pdf” and can be found in the “files” subdirectory of the CD. Once they open that, it will work.

You can find the “files” subdirectory by going to “My Computer” and clicking on the icon for the CD drive. If you still cannot get the CD to work, send an email to cdsupport@miracd.com with a brief description of the problem.
