The author draws on seven years of experience leading the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) program at NC State University, to offer insights into how to successfully produce data scientists for industry at scale. The discussion will include an overview of curriculum components and programmatic structure, as well as highlight ways in which universities can organize to achieve superior and consistent results in student outcomes. Particular emphasis will be given to the role of career preparation and how career development is integrated into the student learning experience. Data will be provided on the performance and outcomes of 335 MSA graduates since 2007.
