ASA Member Honored with Prestigious Professorship
V.A. Samaranayake, professor of mathematics and statistics at Missouri University of Science and Technology and an ASA member, has been named Curators' Teaching Professor of mathematics and statistics. The Teaching Professorship, established in 1990 by the University of Missouri system, to reward outstanding professors, is the system's highest honor. It was created to call attention to teaching excellence and foster improvements in teaching and learning. A Curators' Professor becomes a resource of the state university system by contributing through teaching, service and outreach activities. Appointments last five years and are renewable by the system's chancellor. Samaranayake has more than 30 years of statistical consultation work with scientists and engineers in academia, government agencies and industry. He will be recognized during commencement ceremonies December 13.
