Statistical Significance

The “Statistical Significance” (StatSig) series highlights the important contributions that statisticians make to society, from healthcare and economy to national security and the environment. ASA sections and the Scientific and Public Affairs (SPA) Committee are helping to develop these documents. To comment on these documents or to suggest examples, contact Steve Pierson.

• Statistics Informs Health Policy, produced under the supervision of the ASA Health Policy Statistics Section.
• Statistics Powers Competitiveness, produced under the supervision of the ASA Section on Business and Economic Statistics.
• Statistics Monitors the Environment, produced under the supervision of the ASA Section on Statistics and the Environment.
• Statistics Improves Security and Defense, produced under the supervision of the ASA Section on Defense and National Security.

Richard A. Forshee and Mark O. Walderhaug, both of the FDA, were recently named winners of the Statistical Significance Poster competition for their entry, titled "Statistics Helps Protect the Blood Supply" during the 2009 Joint Statistical Meetings in Washington, DC.
