Infestations are a major hazard in agriculture and a significant concern in other biological and medical settings. Early detection allows for containment and eradication. An optimum strategy to minimize the economic impact is suggested. Four probability models for analysis of cost are proposed for finite and infinite populations which are used to find the optimal strategy to minimize the economic impact of a potential infestation.
