Description: Spatial data analysis and environmental issues are very active and important areas of current research. The work of all three speakers generally focuses on issues in handling multivariate spatio-temporal data, and in building models relating environmental exposures to mortality or other health outcome data.

Chair: Jonathan Stroud
Organizer: Peter Mueller
Description: The theme of this session are applied and computational aspects of Bayesian optimal design. The first two talks consider the use of a formal Bayesian decision theoretic approach in important applied problems in biostatistics and finance. The third talk discusses computational strategies based on inhomogeneous Markov chain simulation.

Description: In the information age, computing capabilities are greatly expanding, which has enable the application of Bayesian methodology to a much greater extent. The application of Bayesian methodology to health outcomes is a fairly recent development and addresses problems that have not yet been adequately answered. Speakers will show that a possibly complex Bayesian methodology can be used to assure cleaner, more straightforward results less subject to misinterpretation. Four women who have specialized in this area, from a new graduate to those in the field for years, will discuss a spectrum of views from across the country.
