Notes from the SBSS Executive Committee meeting, JSM 2005, Minneapolis, MN Present: Malay Ghosh Steve MacEachern Merlise Clyde Herbie Lee Lionel Galway Vanja Dukic Dalene Stangl Dipak Dey Ming-Hui Chen Hal Stern Susan Paddock We agreed to travel awards to Savage finalists for the Valencia meeting since the award would be presented there rather than at JSM 2006. There will be up to 8 finalists attending. We discussed supporting the Valencia meeting by providing $7500 for student travel, though no decision was made at the meeting since a formal request had not yet been received from ISBA. We decided to try two breakfast coffee roundtables in place of two SBSS sponsored luncheons at JSM 2006 in Seattle, to address issues of cost, trying something new / targeting a different time slot, and taking advantage of the west coast time zone. Student paper awards: we would continue to select the 10 best. We would not select an overall 'winner.' We discussed SBSS support for the Mitchell Prize. SBSS paid its contribution to be a Charter member, but lapsed on supporting it a few years ago when finances were tight. We discussed sending an additional $1000 to contribute. Malay would follow-up with ISBA about this.
