Time and Task Line for the Nominating Committee

The chair of the committee is the immediate past chair of the section. There are three other members. Members serve a three-year term. Each year, the chair of the committee appoints a new member as one member rotates off.

*The number of Representative(s) to the Council of Sections and their term of office shall be as specified in the Charter of the Association’s Council of Sections. The paragraph on membership currently says

Sections with 100-1000 full members shall have one representative, Sections with 1001-2000 full members shall have two representatives, Sections with 2001-3000 full members shall have three representatives, and Sections with more than 3000 full members shall have four representatives. Each Section Representative shall serve a three-year term...


Time and tasks:

Reference point: The nominating committee in the fall of year n prepares a slate of officers to be elected in the spring of year n+1 to serve at the beginning of the year n+2.

Task

May of Year n

Committee chair reviews the slate of officers needed and confers with committee members. Committee chair posts/sends a notice soliciting interest from section members – in Section web page and electronic discussion group.

June and July of Year n

Nominating committee contacts potential candidates and makes sure they understand the responsibilities of the position, encourages them to attend JSM section activities, refers them to the time and task descriptions on the Section web site and sends them appropriate information from the ASA Handbook for Officers.

JSM of Year n

Nominating committee presents slate of officers to Executive Committee for discussion.

September of Year n

Nominating committee finalizes the slate of officers

November 15 of Year n

Nominating committee sends in slate of officers to ASA.

March of Year n+1

Elections are held.

August at JSM, Year n+1

Officers are announced.

January of Year n+2

Officers’ terms begin.
