For years, a much-anticipated part of the debauchery that we affectionately call the Talent Show was when we turned down the lights and Arnie Rosenthal showed slides from GRCs past. (For you young folks, a "slide" was a partially transparent photograph which, if light were projected through it onto a white surface, yielded an image.) Arnie graciously culled some of the cream of his crop of pictures and digitized them for all posterity. Since photographs of primary GRC content are expressly off-limits by the formal rules of the conference, most of the pictures actually were taken at Talent Shows, including my personal favorites:
Pictures which either began or ended many of Arnie's shows showed the famous (George) Box, (Bill) Hunter, and (Stu) Hunter, perhaps doing a skit for the Talent Show based on their well-known book. In at least one of these pictures, George is probably asking someone to sample his Bayesian posterior.
John Cornell was often the Master of Ceremonies for the Talent Show, and as such he was responsible for providing "prizes". His school (can you tell which one?) was often the donor.
The conference played match-maker to many a famous academic partnership, but so far as we know it yielded only one more intimate pairing---namely, Svante Wold and Nouna Kettaneh-Wold, who first met at the GRC.
