Social Statistics Section

The Social Statistics Section seeks to advance research in social statistics, both in areas which involve the use of methods that involve statistical inquiry, and in those which involve the use of statistical data and the development of statistical measurement. The section also plans for the active participation of the affairs of the American Statistical Association by those interested in these matters and for representation of activities in the major field in the program of the ASA.

  • 2013 JSM SOCIAL STATISTICS SECTION ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS: CALL FOR PROPOSALS

This is an invitation to the Social Statistics Section (SSS) membership to submit ideas for roundtable discussions at next year’s JSM in Montreal, Quebec August 3-8, 2013. The SSS plans to schedule about 5-10 such discussions which can focus on a specific survey, a new or interesting survey methodology, a statistical technique, or any such relevant survey research topic.

Each presenter needs to submit an abstract through the online abstract system from December 3, 2012 through February 4, 2013. The abstract should be a short (2-3 sentence) description of the luncheon. This information will be edited for inclusion in registration materials. Members will make their decisions on whether to attend based on this information.

A.M. Roundtable Discussions are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:00 – 8:15 am. Speakers with Lunch and P.M. Roundtable Discussions are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 12:30 – 1:50 p.m.

Please share your ideas with the 2013 SSS Program Chair Elect Michael Sinclair (Sinclair-mike@NORC.org), and 2013 SSS Program Chair Deborah Griffin (deborah.h.griffin@census.gov).
