Day 1: R, Bioconductor and Bioinformatics by Denise Scholtens, PhD and Kwang-Youn Kim, PhD Dr. Scholtens will cover a range of topics pertaining to -omics data analysis. Material will be presented through a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises using Bioconductor. Denise is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Dr. Kim will cover the workflow of sequence analysis from alignment to analysis. The starting point is BAM files produced from aligning the short reads to a reference genome. Several R packages will be introduced for these analyses. Kwang-Youn is an Assistant Professor in the Biostatistics Collaboration Center and the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Day 2: Rcpp and RInside for R and C++ integration: A guided tour with applications by Dirk Eddelbuettel, PhD A practical introduction to the Rcpp package (and other related packages) as well as a hands-on introduction to more advanced Rcpp features. The focus will be on simple and straightforward applications of Rcpp in order to extend R and/or to significantly accelerate the execution of simple functions. Dirk has been writing R packages for over a decade, currently maintains 20, including Rcpp and several related packages, and contributes to a few others. He has PhD in Financial Econometrics from EHESS (Paris), and works in Chicago as a Senior Quantitative Analyst.
