Theme: Building the Future Through Student Engagement with Data and Statistics

Co-Chairs: Hollylynne Lee and Gemma Mojica, HI-RiSE: A Hub for Innovation and Research in Statistics Education at the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, NC State University

Featuring Chris Franklin, ASA K–12 Statistical Ambassador

The MWM program provides middle- and high-school mathematics and science teachers an opportunity to discuss and apply the data analysis, data science, and statistical concepts embodied in the NCTM Catalyzing Change books and American Statistical Association’s (ASA) Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) Pre-K–12 Curriculum Framework.

The program includes examining what students can be expected to do at the most basic level of data analysis understanding and what can be expected of them as their skills develop and experience broadens. Teachers will learn to use strategies and technology tools that support students’ learning and empower them to investigate questions using real-world data.

The workshop is free, though space is limited and advance registration is required. We expect to provide a small stipend for participants of the entire virtual workshop. Participants engaged throughout the workshop will also receive a certificate documenting 10 hours of professional learning that may be submitted to their local agency for CEUs. Registration deadline: June 30, 2023.

**Participants will complete about one hour of preparation work before the workshop. All times are in the Eastern Time Zone.
