Using Bayesian Methods to Give Patients a Better Outcome in a Clinical Trial
*Jay Kadane, Carnegie Mellon University

Bayesian methods can be used to give patients in a clinical trial a better chance for a favorable outcome than they would get with an unrestricted randomized design. This technique relies on using data generated by previous patients in the trial, and hence is applicable only when response happens quickly relative to accrual. A brief outline of how such a trial was conducted will be given.
