Responsibilities of the Chair-Elect, Chair, and Past Chair

Chair-Elect

Summer:

Select a Program Chair for JSM in two years.

JSM:

Fall:

Work with the Treasurer to prepare a budget for the coming year. Submit to ASA.

Appoint Chair for Best Contributed Paper Award Committee.

Appoint a Stat Ed representative to the ENAR program committee for the following year's JSM.

Chair

Serve as the Statistics Education Section liaison on the ASA Advisory Committee for Teacher Enhancement. The chair of the ACTE committee will advise you of meeting dates.

January: Set up listserv for the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee consists of the officers of the Section, the immediate Past Chair of the Section, the Program Chair, the Program Chair-Elect, and the Newsletter Editor. The officers include the Chair, the Chair-Elect, the Secretary/Treasurer, the Publications Officer, six elected members of the Executive Committee of the Section, and the Section's Representative(s) to the Association's Council of Sections.

In February, write article for Section newsletter, to appear in the spring March issue.

In late February or early March, request meeting times from ASA for the business meeting and Executive Committee meeting. (The ASA office should prompt this with an email message.) Order refreshments for the open business meeting.

Regular business during the year:

Before the JSM, appoint a new member to the Stat Ed fellows committee and ask the committee to meet at JSM and consider potential nominees.

Also before JSM: Send out request for agenda items to Executive Committee, then send preliminary agenda to Executive Committee right before JSM. Also, prepare the business meeting agenda.

JSM: Chair Stat Ed Executive Committee meeting and business meeting.

In late August, write article for Section Newsletter, to appear in the fall September edition.

In late fall, write a column for the Amstat News reporting on JSM and other Section activities during your year as chair.

Beginning in November, put in motion the advertising for the Waller Award. Send out an announcement in the Amstat News January issue. Also, advertise in other appropriate venues.

Past Chair

Assist the current chair throughout the year as needed.

January: Submit an annual report, as prompted by ASA.

Chair the Ray Waller Award Committee. Stay attuned to the ASA deadline for submitting the Waller Award winner and Contributed Paper winner for the JSM Awards program.

JSM: Attend the Stat Ed Executive Committee meeting and business meeting. At the business meeting, present the Waller Award winner.
