The American Statistical Association has accepted an invitation to become a partner society in the 1998 Educom Medal Awards Program. Educom is a nonprofit consortium of colleges, universities, and corporate associates dedicated to the improvement of higher education through the effective and efficient use of information technology. The Medal Awards Program, now in its fourth year, is designed to recognize contributors to innovative uses of technology in education.
Each year, several disciplinary societies are chosen as Educom partners; each is responsible for selecting a Medal winner. The 1997 Educom partners were the American Philosophical Association, the American Political Science Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Geological Society of America.
In 1998, an award will be given to an ASA member who has made a significant contribution to transforming undergraduate learning in statistics through the application of information technology. The winner will receive a check for $2,500, a silver medal, a bronze desk statue, and travel expenses to attend the Educom annual meeting to be held October 13-16, 1998, in Orlando, Florida.
Eligibility. The Educom Medal Awards Program is limited to applications used by undergraduate students. Awards are made to individuals rather than to institutions, publishers, or organizations.
