About the Award

The ASA Pride Scholarship was established to raise awareness for and support the success of LGBTQ+ statisticians and data scientists and allies. The scholarship will celebrate their diverse backgrounds and showcase the invaluable skills and perspectives these individuals bring to the ASA, statistics, and data science.

Selection Criteria

The ASA will appoint an award selection committee with input from the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Outreach Group and the ASA LGBTQ+ Advocacy Committee. To be eligible for the award, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled in a statistics or data science graduate program or have completed a statistics or data science degree within five years of the award date
  • Identify as LGBTQ+ or an ally

Nominations

Self-nominations and nominations are welcome by March 31.

Self-nominations require the following:

  • Candidate’s résumé or CV
  • Personal statement that includes a description of how the funds will be used to support their professional development and how they will contribute to the LGBTQ+ community (1–2 pages)
  • Optional letter of support (peer letters are encouraged)

Nominations require the following:

  • Nomination letter (1–2 pages)
  • Candidate’s résumé or CV
  • Personal statement from the candidate that includes a description of how the funds will be used to support their professional development and how they will contribute to the LGBTQ+ community (1–2 pages)

Award Recipient Responsibilities

The award recipients are responsible for providing a current photograph and general personal information the year the award is presented. The American Statistical Association uses this information to publicize the award and prepare the certificate.
