The Beyond AP Statistics (BAPS) workshop is for AP Statistics teachers and consists of enrichment material just beyond the basic AP/intro to statistics syllabus.
June 4, 2023
8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET
Sponsored by the American Statistical Association/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Joint Committee on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability, the Beyond AP Statistics (BAPS) workshop will be held after the US Conference on Teaching Statistics (USCOTS) at Penn State University.
Organized by Roxy Peck, the workshop will be divided into four sessions led by the following noted statisticians:
Beth Chance, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
Power: What Is It and Why Do We Care? Understanding Power and Its Implications
Robin Lock and Patti Frazer Lock, St. Lawrence University
Bootstrapping to Estimate Margin of Error and Calculate Confidence Intervals
Jamie Perrett, Brigham Young University
Introduction to Data Science
Roxy Peck, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
The cost of the workshop is $50, which includes lunch. Registration for USCOTS is not required to attend the BAPS workshop, but you must register for USCOTS if you wish to attend those sessions. Registration grants are available for teachers who would like to attend USCOTS.
To register for BAPS, you must go to the US Conference on Teaching Statistics website.
You will see a registration cost of $225 (before April 17) or $275 (after April 17). Go ahead and click Register Now. On the page listing workshops, scroll to the bottom and select BAPS Workshop. When you get to the summary and payment page, enter the discount code BAPS50 and click Apply. This will reduce your registration cost to $50 and enroll you in the BAPS workshop.
If you would also like to attend USCOTS, the USCOTS registration fee will include the BAPS workshop. If you would like to attend USCOTS, but the registration fee is a burden, you can apply for a grant. (If you are attending USCOTS under a registration grant, you will still need to register for BAPS and pay the $50 registration fee, however).
There is housing available at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel for $129 per night. To make a reservation, use the link on the registration page.
