About the Award

The Biopharmaceutical Section Scholarship Award was established in 2018 by the Biopharmaceutical Section of the American Statistical Association to recognize notable research, academic achievement, and applied project work related to biopharmaceutical statistics. The award will also consider general academic performance, leadership, volunteering, and service. Annually, up to five students will each receive an award of $1,000.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in statistics or biostatistics.
  2. While membership in the Biopharmaceutical Section is not required; ASA membership is a requirement.

Nominations

Students should submit the following package to the chair of the Scholarship Award Committee at their physical or email address:

  • A completed application
  • Transcripts (unofficial acceptable)
  • Two letters of recommendation

Applications may be submitted from January 1 to March 15 each year. Winners will be announced in mid-April. Submission details and the award application are available on the scholarship page of the Biopharmaceutical Section website.

Award Recipient Responsibilities

The award recipients are responsible for providing a current photograph and general personal information the year the award is presented. The American Statistical Association uses this information to publicize the award and prepare the certificate. If a student attends the Joint Statistical Meetings, the student should make every effort to attend the Open Business Meeting of the Biopharmaceutical Section, where they will receive the award in person.
