Investing in the Future of Statistics Education:
Meet Kaycie Maddox

Kaycie Maddox, the American Statistical Association’s new K–12 Statistics and Data Science Education Outreach Director, is a passionate educator and leader committed to transforming how statistics and data science are taught in classrooms across the country. Kaycie joins the ASA as Chris Franklin steps back from her role as K–12 statistical ambassador.

Maddox brings years of classroom experience, deep pedagogical insight, and an unwavering belief in students’ ability to think critically and deeply about mathematical and statistical concepts. Her journey has been shaped by groundbreaking professional development experiences—such as National Board Certification—and is fueled by a belief that every student deserves access to high-quality instruction.

Franklin and Maddox collaborated on projects that have transformed statistics teacher professional learning. Building on this work, Maddox will help lead new initiatives such as Stats & Data Net, which launched in July of 2025. Formerly known as Meeting Within a Meeting and Stats Chats, this reimagined professional learning program will connect educators with expert-developed lessons that spark authentic student understanding and teacher confidence.

Why Does This Matter?

Programs like Stats & Data Net—and the coordinator role, itself—are made possible because of the generosity of donors. Your support helps the ASA expand its outreach, provide robust professional development, and create a national network of empowered K–12 educators who can lead the next generation of data-savvy students.

“Seeing teachers lead their students to ownership of mathematical and statistical concepts makes my heart sing every time,” Maddox says. And thanks to your support, more moments like these are possible.
