As the statistical profession navigates the growing influence of data science and rapid advances in artificial intelligence, Horton and Rotelli bring a shared commitment to strengthening the ASA as a visible, influential, and inclusive professional home for statisticians, data scientists, and analysts.
Nicholas Horton — 2027 President-Elect
Nick Horton brings extensive experience in statistics education and association leadership to the role of president-elect. Having served the ASA in multiple capacities, including as an ASA vice president and the editor of the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education, Horton has demonstrated his ability to build consensus and advance the association’s mission across its diverse membership.
Horton identified three priorities that will shape his presidency: improving statistics and data science education to ensure the discipline remains a vibrant choice for future generations of students; promoting the practice and profession of statistics by communicating the value of the profession to the public; and leveraging and supporting our members through various career stages and pathways.
“The growing role of data science and the rapid dissemination of sophisticated AI tools and models raise important questions for us as a profession. As president, I will work to strengthen the ASA as a visible, influential, and inclusive professional home for statisticians, data scientists, and analysts across academia, industry, and government.” — Nick Horton
Horton, who is the Beitzel Professor of Technology and Society (Statistics and Data Science) in the department of statistics at Amherst College, emphasized that the ASA must continue to promote the critical role statistics plays in science, policy, business, and public life. He also stressed the importance of fostering excellence in statistical methods, upholding strong ethical standards, and engaging thoughtfully with rapid advances in computing and AI.
“As president, I will focus on strengthening the association, ensuring financial stability, and advancing the ASA’s mission to promote the practice and profession of statistics for the public good.” — Nick Horton

Rotelli, who works as a data strategist for Moral, has championed communication skills and professional development as essential to raising the profile of statistics.
