About the Award

The Health Policy Statistics Section (HPSS) Achievement Awards honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of statistical methods or have developed innovative statistical applications for health care policy or health services research. The awards are given to encourage research in this area and increase awareness of the HPSS in the statistical community.

Selection Criteria

The HPSS Mid-Career Award recognizes leaders in health care policy and health services research who have made outstanding contributions through methodological or applied work. Furthermore, the award honors those who show a promise of continued excellence at the frontier of statistical practice that advances the aims of HPSS. Candidates must be within 15 years of their terminal degree on January 1 of the award year and cannot be a previous HPSS Mid-Career Award winner.

The HPSS Long-Term Excellence Award recognizes significant contributions to health care policy and health services research through mentoring and/or service that advance the aims of HPSS. Candidates cannot be within 15 years of their terminal degree on January 1 of the award year or previous HPSS Long-Term Excellence Award winner.

Award Recipient Responsibilities

The award recipient is responsible for providing a current photograph and general personal information the year the award is presented. The American Statistical will use this information to publicize the award.

Nominations

Nominations are due by midnight Eastern Time on September 15. Please send the following materials to [email protected]:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter (not to exceed two pages) from the nominator summarizing the nominee’s credentials
  • Optional additional independent (other than the nominator or nominee) letters
  • Contact information for the nominee or nominator (if different)
