Dr. Jean Dickinson Gibbons
Endowed Scholarships
About the Scholarships
Dr. Jean Gibbons generously established this scholarship fund to support PhD students in statistics who are actively engaged or will soon be engaging in doctoral dissertation research. Eligible recipients must already hold a master’s degree in mathematics or statistics and be enrolled in a statistics PhD program. Students must also be committed to completing their dissertation in the area of applied statistics.
Up to four scholarships of $10,000 each will be awarded annually.
Selection Criteria
Scholarships will be awarded in two general areas:
Two $10,000 scholarships to support students working on their dissertation to supplement existing financial support. Awards may be made contingent upon dissertation status.
Two $10,000 scholarships to support students still working on course work before they have started on dissertation work.
Selection of the scholarship recipient is made by the Dr. Jean Dickinson Gibbons Endowed Scholarships Award Committee based on the following criteria:
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores or equivalent
- Prior academic records and quality of institutions attended
- Letters of recommendation
The scholarships shall be awarded only to students who are citizens or permanent residents of the USA or Canada and who are enrolled in or have been accepted into enrollment at a doctoral statistics program in the USA or Canada and have been granted substantial financial assistance at that university. Applicants must also already hold a master’s degree in mathematics or statistics.
